Purpose

The co-educational institution in Ahmedabad, India, known as the School for Deaf Mutes, is dedicated to providing education for students with visual and auditory impairments.

This project aims to create a test portal tailored for students with visual impairments, while also serving as a comprehensive platform for teachers to efficiently address various academic requirements, which will be elaborated upon later.

Abstract

A desktop platform is designed to enable students to navigate questions and choices with text-to-speech functionality. Students can select correct answers and flag questions for review. Through the admin module, teachers can add chapter-specific questions to the database and manage their question bank for creating test papers. The portal enhances the user experience by incorporating sound elements and utilizing contrasting colors.

System Flaws

The examination module in the previous system featured small question and choice fields, posing difficulties for students in selecting answers without proper accessibility.

The old system lacked the ability for examiners to conduct chapter-by-chapter tests, and supervisors were unable to track the overall number of questions marked by students for review.

Students were constrained to paper-based exams in the absence of text-to-speech capabilities in the old system, leading to time-consuming processes and hindering their ability to efficiently review their answers.

Admin Dashboard

Through the admin portal, teachers can oversee and control their question bank, grades, subjects, and chapters.

Teachers can utilize profile management to update their name, profile photo, designation, and password.

Filters consist of three criteria—class, subject, and chapter—aimed at simplifying the process for teachers to access examination papers.

Create a question paper

Educators can utilize this feature to create customized test papers for individual or multiple chapters. Additionally, they have the flexibility to specify preferences such as whether negative grading is desired and the desired length of the exam.

The passcode serves as a unique identification code that students must input to access the respective question paper.

Manage question bank

Educators can add new questions for future use in tests and can also update or delete existing ones. To facilitate accessibility, the list of questions can be filtered based on the subject.

This platform allows the inclusion of questions, options, and correct answers, along with associated details such as grade, subject, and chapter specifications.

Manage grades, subjects and chapters

These fundamental operations, known as Create, Read, Update, and Delete (CRUD), empower teachers to manage grades, subjects, and chapters. Subjects are aligned with particular grades, and chapters are connected to specific subjects in this system.

Student portal

To commence the test, students can initiate the process by entering their names and then validating the question paper through the input of a passcode. The timer will commence as soon as they click the start button.

Students have the ability to navigate through questions, choices, and actions using the designated navigation and functional keyboard keys. The text-to-speech functionalities will read out the content of the question, options, and the text of the currently focused button, facilitating accessibility.

Results

Upon completing the test, students can instantly obtain their results. The scores, tied to the passcode of the exam paper, will be promptly recorded in the database.
